Shadwell’s new recruits for 2003, namely SAKHEE and ACT ONE, will be based at Beech House Stud near Newmarket for the duration of the December Mare Sales.
SAKHEE is the best son of Champion Miler BAHRI and is out of the SADLER’S WELLS mare THAWAKIB. He was champion racehorse of 2001, winning the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1) by a record 6 lengths and the Juddmonte International (G1) by 7 lengths. His season ended in an epic battle with TIZNOW in the Breeders Cup Classic (G1) earning him the top rating of 133 on the International Classifications. Combine this with the fact that he won twice as a two year old and took the Dante at three and you have all the credentials of a top class stallion prospect. He stands at £20,000 (1st October)
ACT ONE joins us at the bequest of the late Gerald Leigh. Unbeaten at two, taking the Criterium International (G1), his three year old season saw success in the Prix Lupin (G1) and a close second to SULAMANI in the Prix du Jockey Club. Like leading young sire SINGSPIEL, ACT ONE is a son of IN THE WINGS and is from the family of champions BOSRA SHAM, HECTOR PROTECTOR and LAMTTARRA. Great value at £10,000 (1st October), he’s already proving a popular choice.
They will join Beech House residents MUHTARRAM and ERHAAB and the recently repatriated ELMAAMUL, and breeders are encouraged to take the opportunity to view this high class line up between Tuesday and Thursday of this week.
MUHTARRAM, stands at Beech House for a second season. He has enjoyed another successful year through the likes of FIGHT YOUR CORNER and has brought his tally of wins to more than 180 worldwide.
ERHAAB, already a great success in Japan, has his first UK foals which are most pleasing – strong, compact and very correct. Also in attendance for the week will be ELMAAMUL. Recently repatriated from Italy, he is due to stand at Beechwood Grange Stud in Yorkshire for an incredibly competitive £2,000 (1st October). His flagship progeny this season have been the highly promising juveniles LATEEN SAILS and SALCOMBE. He’s already attracting interest from the very top breeders.
MUJAHID, whose colt foals out of SKY RED and PAIN PERDU made £45,000 £46,000, respectively, at last week’s Foal Sale, will be missing from the team as he is still enjoying a busy season in at Widden Stud in Australia. He is expected to return around Christmas and so will be available to view from then on. All viewing is by appointment and interested parties should contact the Shadwell Office on 01842 755913.
