The Thoroughbred Breeders' Association is hosting its first annual charity raceday at Newbury on Friday, 18th July, featuring the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes, sponsored by Shadwell Stud. Funds raised will be jointly shared with CancerBACUP.
The TBA is a registered charity that requires funds to pay for vital veterinary research into infectious diseases and combative vaccines at the Animal Health Trust and equine reproduction at the Equine Fertility Unit. The TBA also provide training for stud staff and funds for the promotion and marketing of the British Thoroughbred worldwide.
CancerBACUP supplies free information, practical advice and emotional support for people with cancer, their families and friends. It is the largest operation of it's kind in Europe and is entirely dependent on voluntary donations.
Gates open at 11.30am and at 11.45am there will be a parade of stallions. Bold Edge, Compton Place, Double Trigger, Fraam and Kayf Tara will all be on show as will, for the first time on a British racecourse, two mares and foals from the locally based Kingwood Stud. A champagne reception and lunch will take place in the TBA Pavilion next to the pre-parade ring with an auction conducted by John Francome and Richard Phillips.
Among the items that have been donated for the auction are a fabulous bronze of a mare and foal by Philip Blaker, a study of foals by the outstanding artist Katie O'Sullivan, a superb painting of a race at Newbury by David Trundley and a private stud book by Weatherby's. The top lot has to be the lease for two years of a yearling filly with all expenses paid courtesy of Mick Channon and Kingwood Stud. The successful bidder will have the opportunity to name the filly and have her racing in their colours for her two and three-year-old career. There are also some wonderful prizes for the raffle and silent auction.
As well as sponsoring the main race on the Friday, Shadwell will be represented within the Exhibition marquee over the three day meeting. The Shadwell stand will be situated towards the back of the marquee and will contain information relating to the Thoroughbred Stallions, the highly successful Arabian operation, Derrinstown Stud in Ireland, Shadwell Farm in the USA and Kingwood Stables, Marcus Tregoning's training base. Members of staff will be on hand throughout the weekend and will be happy to deal with any questions.
The TBA/CancerBACUP Raceday committee are hoping a good crowd will join them at Newbury to support this exciting new venture which should be great fun and prove to be a flagship for the Thoroughbred Breeding Industry. All studs within a 30 mile radius of Newbury can apply for up to 10 grandstand badges for distribution to staff members.
