It is with great sadness that Shadwell Estate Company Limited announces that, following a deteriorating heart condition, ELMAAMUL was euthanised on Thursday 31st August 2006. The son of Diesis was 19 years old.
ELMAAMUL was the Champion three-year-old colt in Britain and Ireland and achieved a Timeform rating of 125. Trained by the late Dick Hern, ELMAAMUL was partnered by Willie Carson to win five of his ten starts, including both his races at two. He returned at three to win the Listed Easter Stakes at Kempton and was later second in the Predominate Stakes at Goodwood, before finishing third in the Derby behind QUEST FOR FAME. After his success over Derby runner-up TERIMON in the Eclipse at Sandown, ELMAAMUL finished second to IN THE GROOVE in the Gr.1 International at York, before landing his second Group 1 victory in the Phoenix Champion Stakes.
ELMAAMUL retired to stud in 1991 and stood at Shadwell Farm in Kentucky before returning to the UK in 1994 where he stood five seasons at Eagle Lane Farm and the 1999 season at Banstead Manor Stud. He then spent 3 seasons at Allev. di Besnate in Italy before returning to Beechwood Grange Stud in Yorkshire in 1993.
He proved himself a useful sire, with top-class miler MUHTATHIR and Grade 1 winner SWEET RETURN among his progeny, as well as high-class performers RISK SEEKER, LATEEN SALES and DANKESTON.
