Group 2 victory for NAYEF, with 1st and 2nd past the post

Cheveley Park Stud's homebred SPACIOUS was an impressive winner of the May Hill Stakes (Gr.2) at Doncaster yesterday on only her second outing, earning her sire his first Group winner.

The field was closely packed in the early stages, with SPACIOUS held up at the rear, before making her move on the outside. Hitting the front with a furlong to go, she edged right towards her rivals but never looked like getting beaten, passing the post half a length clear of her paternal half-sister KOTSI, also on her second outing, to record a Gr.2 1-2 for first season sire NAYEF.

 

 

SPACIOUS received a quote of 20-1 for next year's 1000 Guineas, is unlikely to race again this season, whilst KOTSI could be supplemented for either the Gr.1 Fillies' Mile of Gr.1 Prix Marcel Boussac.

 

SPACIOUS' trainer James Fanshawe said after the race, " I have always like her and told a few of my Owner- Breeders to use NAYEF, her sire, and hopefully they will be pleased with me now."

NAYEF is achieving 61% winners/ placed to runners from his first crop.
