Sheikh’s Racing Welcome for East Anglian Air Ambulance

On 17 December 2007, Anglia One, the East Anglian Air Ambulance serving Norfolk and Suffolk, flew into Nunnery Stud at Brettenham, Thetford to meet senior members of the Shadwell Estate team representing His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum.  Mirza Alsayegh, Private Secretary to his Highness and Chairman of Shadwell Estate Company Ltd himself flew in specially for the occasion which marked the donation of £25,000 gift to the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA).   The cheque was accepted by the Earl of Iveagh in his capacity as Trustee of the EAAA.

Anglia One provides 365 emergency cover across Norfolk and Suffolk for the victims of accidents or medical emergencies but it costs in excess of £1.7 million to run Anglia One each year and provide the advanced medical equipment it carries.  The charity is entirely dependent on donations and fund-raising to keep the ambulance airborne.

Commenting on his donation, Mirza Alsayegh said:  “We are delighted to make this gift in recognition of the debt the racing industry owes to East Anglian Air Ambulance for the vital service it provides for our industry.”

Lord Iveagh  added:  “We are deeply grateful to His Highness for leading the way in encouraging the racing industry to support our work.  All too regularly the EAAA is called out to help the victims of equestrian accidents, frequently in isolated country areas inaccessible to land ambulances.   We’ve also been called out to both Newmarket and Fakenham Race Courses over the last year.”
