Triumphant weekend at Chantilly for Shadwell and sire NAYEF

Posted on: 2nd Oct 2017

ICE BREEZE, who became the 25th stakes winner for NAYEF following his Prix Hocquart triumph, claimed his second stakes win when storming to victory in the Group 2 Prix Chaudenay at Chantilly on Saturday for trainer Pascal Bary.

The three-year-old colt carried the colours of his owner-breeder Khalid Abdullah, whose famous silks were also carried by SNOW SKY – a full brother to ICE BREEZE – to victory in four stakes races, including a pair of Group 2s – the Hardwicke Stakes and Yorkshire Cup.

ICE BREEZE is the seventh foal out of the dual winner and Listed-placed DANSILI mare WINTER SILENCE, who is a half-sister to four black-type winners, most notably top-flight scorers METEOR STORM and POLISH SUMMER.

NAYEF, who carried HH Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum’s colours to victory at the highest level four times, has been a model of consistency since retiring to stud, the highlight so far being Group 1 winners LADY MARIAN and TAMAYUZ. The latter has established himself as a sire of the highest calibre, highlighted by top-level winners G FORCE and PRECIEUSE.

ICE BREEZE’S victory set the tone for what was to become a successful weekend for Shadwell. TAAREEF, a four-year-old son of KITTEN’S JOY, capped a fine day for Shadwell at Chantilly on Saturday, carrying the colours of Sheikh Hamdan to victory in the Group 2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein. Across the pond success was also found in the form of TAKAFUL, a three-year-old son of BERNADINI who won the Grade 1 Vosburgh Stakes at Belmont Park. Sunday brought yet more honours with BATTAASH, a three-year-old son of DARK ANGEL winning the Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye in great style and form.
