Muhtathir: has a live Classic hope in the shape of Phelps Win

Shadwell sire MUHTATHIR has a live Classic contender in the shape of PHELPS WIN, who ran out the easy winner of the Group 3 Prix du Guiche at Chantilly on Sunday to become his sire’s 18th stakes winner.

The Henri-Alex Pantall-trained three-year-old travelled kindly throughout the race and responded generously to his rider Pierre-Charles Boudot at the two-furlong marker, pulling clear of the odds-on favourite PLUMATIC to win by three and a half lengths.

PHELPS WIN carries the colours of his breeder Nadine Chiari and is the fourth foal out of her Listed-winning TAKE RISKS mare TAKE GRACE, who has produced two other runners to make the winner’s enclosure – USAIN BEST and PEARL OF GRACE.

MUHTATHIR, who biggest success came in the Group 1 Prix Jacques le Marois, stands at Haras du Mezeray in France, where he stood at a fee of €6,000 this year.

The 22-year-old son of ELMAAMUL has supplied a host of top-class performers, including Group 1 winners DOCTOR DINO, INDONESIENNE, MAURALAKANA, MILLE ET MILLE and SATWA QUEEN.
