First MUHAARAR foal set to sell at Goffs London Sale
Posted on: 8th Jun 2017
The stage has been set, with a filly out of BALDOVINA to be the first foal by HH Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum’s Champion Sprinter MUHAARAR to come under the hammer at public auction.
The filly, who was bred by Betfair founder Andrew Black, will be sold as part of a package alongside her dam, who is in foal to LE HAVRE, at the Goffs London Sale, held at The Orangery at Kensington Palace on Monday 19th June.
BALDOVINA, a 13-year-old daughter of TALE OF THE CAT, is responsible for two winners, headed by Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes winner CEILING KITTY .
CEILING KITTY died last year, but her legacy lives on through daughter FORMIDABLE KITT. The INVINCIBLE SPIRIT two-year-old will bid to follow in the footsteps of her dam when she lines up in this year’s Queen Mary Stakes, carrying the colours of Andrew Black’s Chasemore Farm for trainer Tom Dascombe, who saddled CEILING KITTY to win the race in 2012.
MUHAARAR, a son of OASIS DREAM, was a high-class juvenile, scoring in the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes, but it was as a three-year-old that he established himself as a horse of the highest calibre.
Trained by Charlie Hills, MUHAARAR thrived for a drop back to sprint distances, thrashing his rivals in the inaugural running of the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.
He was then pitched against his elders in the July Cup at Newmarket and got up in the closing strides to deny TROPICS.
MUHAARAR then headed to France and Deauville for the Prix Maurice de Gheest, in which he stuck on gamely to deny subsequent Prix Jacques le Marois and Sun Chariot Stakes winner ESOTERIQUE by half a length.
MUHAARAR bowed out in style at Ascot in the Qipco British Champions Sprint, displaying an electrifying turn of foot to see off that season’s Haydock Sprint Cup winner TWILIGHT SON by two lengths.
MUHAARAR’S first foals have been impressing breeders across Europe this year and it is no surprise considering the quality of his first book.
More than 80 per cent of MUHAARAR’S first book was made up of stakes winners and producers of stakes winners, with 19 mares being either Group/Grade 1 or Classic winners themselves or the producers of Group/Grade 1 winners.
Richard Lancaster, Shadwell Stud Director commented: “It is hugely exciting that the Goffs London Sale, staged on the eve of Royal Ascot, which is arguably the world’s most prestigious racing festival, has been set as the venue for the first MUHAARAR foal to sell.
“I have visited a number of studs in recent weeks and have been thrilled with the first crop of foals by MUHAARAR. There is no question he is stamping his stock and the filly out of BALDOVINA is very similar to a number I have seen. They are good-bodied, strong foals, but most importantly they are very athletic and all walk particularly well.”
