Boarding at Nunnery Stud

Services and fees

Nunnery Stud Services

From day one, the overriding priority at Shadwell has been to maintain our standards of excellence and customer care. Renowned for our professionalism among the racing and thoroughbred breeding fraternity, we’ve left no stone unturned to ensure this world-wide reputation remains as true today as it did on the day we first opened our stable doors.

You have our full support

“The service we’ve received from yourselves over the past few years has been outstanding. The mares have been kept and treated perfectly. Contact by phone and fax, also photos by post, cannot be faulted in any way.”

There are a number of reasons why Shadwell remains at the very forefront of today’s thoroughbred breeding industry. Not only do we stand stallions of the very highest order, we also supply a range of support services to match. Veterinary support is vital and a first rate service is provided by Greenwood Ellis and partners of Newmarket with David Ellis visiting every afternoon throughout the season. Equally important for foals in their first few months is the attention of a good farrier and Simon Curtis personally oversees all work on the stud.

Attention to detail

When the welfare of both stallions and mares is at stake, we believe you can never be too careful. This is why our state of the art stabling, foaling unit and covering barn are surrounded by acres of immaculate post and railed paddocks to ensure every possible care is taken to prevent injury to horses and staff alike. Equally important, staff are trained in-house by our highly experienced management team as well as through external courses and seminars. We consider it essential to keep pace with the very latest developments in science and technology.

Veterinary fees

A very popular alternative to itemised charges, the Veterinary Fees Scheme offers a full range of veterinary services for mares and foals (see below for full details). Our daily boarding rate includes routine worming and farrier charges for mares and foals, except any specialist shoeing which may be required. We also offer clients the opportunity to be billed in Euros, if preferred.

Shadwell Breeding Regulations

"The Nunnery was set up and has been run as a top class stallion stud with the highest standards of care and management. Paul Holdsworth runs a staff with longstanding
service at Shadwell and considerable expertise.
As veterinary surgeon I could not wish for better back-up and
know that all instructions will be followed. Every care is given
and problems are noticed as soon as they arise."

DAVID ELLIS, FRCVS. GREENWOOD ELLIS & PARTNERS, EQUINE VETERINARY SURGEONS.
